Potential Site
For a river to be qualified as a potential site for the use of the river turbine, it has to meet certain criteria:
Water Depth
A minimum of 2 feet of water depth (or 60 cm).
Water Velocity
A minimum of 1 m/s of water velocity and a maximum of 3 m/s.
River bed
The flatness of the river bed.
Distance
A maximum of 1 km (0.62 miles) between the river and the establishment.
Installation
Here is a summary of the main stages included in the installation process of a river turbine. Although a certified installer is strongly recommended, the user can proceed with the installation himself by following the steps and the safety guidelines provided in our installation manual.
Step 1
Step 2
Step 3
Dig a hole in solid rock that cannot be displaced by fluid or ice during winter to anchor the turbine
Step 4
Connect the turbine front bracket to the anchor with a stainless steel cable
Step 5
Connect electrical cable to the back of the generator
Step 6
Attach the river transportation device to the river turbine in order to place it in the designated area. Once the turbine is secure, remove the temporary device
Step 7
Deploy electrical cable to the shore. Anchor the cable to the ground if necessary. Add a ‘marine grade’ cable extension outside water and connect to batteries (up to a kilometer)
Step 8
Enjoy endless supply of electricity!

Idénergie’s river turbine is the only small-scale hydroelectric technology that can meet the electrical needs of a residence simply using the natural flow of a shallow river. The river turbine is directly connected to a battery bank that recharges 24 hours a day thanks to the continuous flow of the river. Even at minimum capacity, enough energy is generated to power the standard electric devices found in a residence such as a refrigerator, a TV set, a computer and lighting.
*Note that the diagram above is a simplified version to easily understand the basic principles. Fuses, charge controller for batteries and monitoring circuit have been omitted. Please refer to our instruction manual or a certified professional installer for details.
Network Installation
Why stop at one turbine when you can install several in the same area of your river? It is possible to connect several turbines together on the same battery bank for greater capacity and power a small community or meet greater energy needs. You can transport multiple turbines to a designated area, assemble and install a mini-farm in record time. The micro-grid set up will allow a small community to directly power standard, off-the-shelf electrical equipment and appliances. It is an ideal system for countries with rainy seasons lasting several months per year, like the mousson in India and South-East Asia.
